the writing and direction of Sagar Kerung, the Limbu-language film ‘Tangsing’ has been produced.

Kathmandu, Asar 17 – The filming of the Limbu-language short film Tangsing has been completed. The shooting took place in various historic locations across Kathmandu and Panchthar districts.

Produced by Yakthung Munchait Chok Sayang with financial support from the Film Development Board, the film has been written and directed by Sagar Kerung. The storyline revolves around the dialectical conflict within a family regarding whether or not to perform the rituals required to guide those unfamiliar with their mother tongue to the ancestral realm after death.

Produced under the banner of Yakthung Films, the cinematography is by Yuvaraj Rai, editing by Parshu Thalang, and lyrics/music by Sagar Kerung. The producers are Narendra Subba and the late Mina Subba, with Tulsa Limbu handling costume design and Amar Tumbapo overseeing art direction.

The cast includes Laxmi Yonghang, Nambin Sherma, Ratna Lingden Lawati, Purna Selin, Salman Thalang, Indu Tumsa, Manu Thaklung, Mina Limbu, Hangma Thebe, Bipana Angbuhang ‘Suhangma’, Asha Rai Nembang, Naresh Banem, Yam Limbu Neyong, Sita Rai Nembang, Tirtha Mademba, Ram Tiling, Bhawani Bikram Nembang, Narendra Subba, among others.

Yakthung Munchait Chok Sayang has established the Yakthung Munchait Endowment Fund with the objective of providing a monthly allowance to senior artists above the age of 70. To strengthen the fund, the organization has announced plans to screen a dozen Limbu-language short films simultaneously, with the proceeds to be invested in the endowment fund.
